Christmas Traditions - Nigerian Food Shopping List

December 20, 2020

2020... it has been a trying year. We’ve had good times, bad times and some have had very bad times but if we are alive, then we have one thing to be grateful for because I believe that as long as there is life, there is hope.

Before we start listing our New Year resolutions, let’s make an effort to enjoy the Yuletide season. Even if everything around us seems miserable, we can choose to take small or big steps to be happy.

You have two choices to make, you can decide to be happy or decide to be sad. I have decided to be happy despite all the things going on. Some small steps we can take include calling loved ones, if it's allowed in your area and Covid-19 isn't bad, go visit your family or whoever makes you comfortable. Make or buy a gift for someone, cook, order food and pamper yourself or others.

Most families don’t need much. The excitement is in connecting with each other and doing things together - physically or virtually. For Nigerians, if you have rice, chicken, goat meat, cow meat, dried fish, yam, tomatoes, plantain, vegetable oil, salad ingredients, mineral lol - I mean fizzy drinks, you are ready to feed yourself, family and friends. These items are sometimes given as gifts to others so it says a lot about its importance. During this Covid-19 times, it might not be a bad idea to send these items to loved ones who need it considering many have lost their jobs and the global economy is struggling.

These food items are all you need to cook the favourite Christmas dishes like Jollof rice, Fried rice, Salads, Pounded yam and soup, Fried Plantain or Pepper soup.

Now that you know what to buy, go ahead and buy what you need and remember that life goes on after Christmas Day so manage your resources wisely.

Happy Shopping Everyone
