Keeping the kids busy during the holidays can be mind-racking sometimes. If they are not busy, they get restless, throw tantrums and even make you a talkative overnight. One way to handle this is to keep their minds and their hands busy with what they enjoy doing. It is true that not all young people like to get involved in the kitchen but it is a good place to get acquainted with as food is a necessity in life and at some point in our lives, we will have to cook something or at least help in cooking something. Also, kitchen and the food in it can really help holding the family together. Here are some tasks the kids could help with depending on their ages.
- Help to sieve flour or icing sugar
- Helping to measure cups of rice, beans, sugar or flour
- Grease the baking pans or baking trays
- Cut pastry dough into shapes with cookie cutters when making cookies
- Kneading and Rolling pastry dough or fondant icing with a rolling pin
- Setting up the dining table for a meal
- Helping to season your Christmas Turkey or Chicken before popping it into the oven
- Mixing the pancake batter before frying
- Washing up dishes and folding napkins
- Adding spices, raisins or other ingredients into the food
The whole idea is the bonding experience and doing things together. Happy Holidays from Mama’s Dish
